Word of the Year 2026

We’ve hit the ground running in 2026, and even though I’ve known what my word would be for this year for a while, it’s taken time to get all my thoughts together!

When I started thinking and praying about my word for this year, lots of ideas kept floating around in my head. I had this note in my phone of words and ideas that kept coming up:

Power

Light

Rest

Weariness

Release

Throne

Enough

And as I began looking at all these words, one attribute of God kept coming to mind that summed up everything I was thinking: sufficient.

2 Corinthians 9:8 says, “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.”

Because He is sufficient, I can rely on His power instead of my own for all that He’s called me to do. He makes what feels heavy light.

Because He is sufficient, I can rest in Him when I feel weary.

Because He is sufficient, I can release things knowing He can handle it.

Because He is sufficient, I can quit trying to sit on the throne and let Him take His rightful place as ruler.

“Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God” (2 Cor. 3:5). I am not enough, but He is, and in His grace He is sufficient on my behalf.

We’re two weeks into the new year, but I’ve already loved meditating on this attribute of God and memorizing the verses I listed above. I’ve also been worshiping to this song on repeat. I’m praying that 2026 will be the year I learn He’s everything, and that is enough.
